In the 1980s and early 1990s, the Ruhr region experienced a time of tension and economic uncertainty. Mines and smelters were closing and the region was in upheaval. In this crisis, neo-Nazis stir up hatred against migrants, while the migrant community organizes itself and opposes the increasing violence.
Chris Herzog and Alexander Bauer take us on a journey through Duisburg, Bochum and Gelsenkirchen - cities that were the scenes of intense conflict at the time. Using unpublished archive material and interviews with contemporary witnesses, they bring back to life a time that was characterized by resistance and the struggle for survival.
